Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized various types of smuggled goods worth Taka 253 crore 56 lakh 85 thousand in different places across the country, especially in the border areas, in the month of September-2024.
“During the month-long drive of the BGB, a para-military force, assigned to ensure border security, said legal action has been taken against 241 smugglers, 298 Bangladeshi nationals and 24 Indian nationals for illegally crossing the border,” according to a BGB release issued here this evening.
Besides, 1,621 Myanmar nationals have been repatriated after being detained, it reads.
The seized contraband items what BGB seized in last month includes: 26 kg 753 gm gold, 10 kg silver, two kg 993 gm snake venom, 2,94,482 cosmetics items, 25,442 sarees, 11,620 three pieces, shirt pieces, chadars, blankets and readymade garments, 40 ,016 meters of cloth, 1,978 cubic feet of wood, 24,667 kg of tea leaves, 4,77,450 kg of sugar, 4,041 kg of fertilizers, 1,11,980 cubic feet of coal, 12,900 pcs of mobile displays, 1,960 glasses, 30,687 kg of yarn/current net, 45,612 kg of betel nuts, 28,416 kg of fish, 3,774 kg of onion, 37,617 kg of garlic, 4,604 kg of cumin, one rough stone idol, nine trucks, 17 Pickups, seven private cars or eight trolleys, 191 boats, 21 CNG or easy bikes, 108 motorbikes and 21 bicycles.
The recovered weapons include two pistols, one gun, 10 cocktails and seven rounds of bullets, the BGB release mentioned.
Meanwhile, the BGB members seized huge amount of contraband items in last month. These include: 12,82,943 pieces of Yaba tablets, 9 kg 413 grams of crystal meth ice, 16 kg 874 grams of heroin, 29,164 bottles of Phensidyl, 20,638 bottles of foreign liquor, 137 liters of locally produced liquor, 1, 347 cans of beer, 1,998 kg of ganja, 89,044 packets of bidis and cigarettes, 2,62,701 narcotic tablets and injections, 3,772 bottles of Iscaf syrup, 25 kg 444 grams of cocaine, 630 bottles of Mkdil and Cofidil, 3,07,580 different types of medicine, 84,09,480 Engro and Senegra tablets, 13 bottles of LSD and 38,655 other tablets.
