Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized a large cache of firearms, ammunition, and sophisticated electronic equipment, including a drone and a signal jammer, from the Dopanichara deep forest area near the border in Bandarban on Friday.
The operation, carried out based on intelligence reports, took place in the Dopanichara border region within Ruma Upazila. Lieutenant Colonel Hasibul Huq, Commander of BGB’s Ruma Battalion, led the raid.
During the operation, the BGB team uncovered a terrorist camp and recovered a range of firearms, explosives, and electronic devices.
In a press release, the BGB detailed the seized items, which include two automatic carbine assault rifles, one semi-automatic assault rifle, three single-barrel breach-loading (SBBL) firearms, and 21 rounds of live ammunition.
In addition to the weapons, modern surveillance equipment was found, such as a high-tech drone, a signal jammer, an audio-video recorder, a video camera, a modern intelligence button camera, and a hidden video recording device.
Other items included a pair of binoculars, two walkie-talkies, a laptop, two powerful lights, a solar system, a satellite television receiver, two Android mobile phones, two basic mobile phones, and various locally made sharp weapons.
The raid also led to the destruction of key infrastructure used by the terrorist group, including an observatory post, a trench, a temporary armoury, a rest house, and a kitchen.
The BGB has stated that the operation is ongoing, with further searches being conducted in the area to uncover more weapons or terrorist hideouts.
Authorities believe there may still be additional weapon caches and safe houses concealed within the deep forest.
