BGB seizes Hilsa in Sunamganj border

Members of the Border Guard Battalion Bangladesh (BGB) seized an illegal shipment of hilsa while being smuggled into the Indian state of Meghalaya.
28- The BGB patrol team of Laurgarh BOP of Tahirpur in Sunamganj of the Border Guard Battalion seized the shipment of hilsa on Saturday afternoon.
On Sunday, the responsible source of 28 Border Guard Battalion Bangladesh (BGB) Sunamganj Battalion said that 46 and a half kg of hilsa contained in that shipment was seized.
The reliable source of the battalion also said that a group of smugglers crossing the border in Ghomaghat, a hilly populous area of Meghalaya state across Sahidabad area of the battalion’s Laurgarh BOP of Tahirpur, was taking the shipment of hilsa for smuggling around Saturday afternoon. On receiving the information, the patrol team of the battalion’s Laurgarh BGB seized 46 and a half kg of hilsa in two ice packs.
Sunday 28- Naib Subedar Muhidur Rahman, BGB Camp Commander of Laurgarh BOP, Tahirpur, Sunamganj, Border Guard Battalion Bangladesh (BGB) said, before the BGB patrol reached Sahidabad, the smugglers left behind the shipment of hilsa.
After that, the seized hilsa is being sold at auction and 46,500 taka is being submitted to the government treasury in the process at the battalion headquarters.
Regarding the smuggling of hilsa in Meghalaya state, Sarwar Jahan, working in a non-governmental organization to prevent border trade and smuggling, said that the country’s silver hilsa is being smuggled in the state of Meghalaya. Even before this, a large quantity of hilsa fish is being smuggled into Meghalaya through the smuggling prone border area across the Sylhet border.
