Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has saved lives by rescuing hundreds of helpless people trapped in water in Ramgarh, Matiranga and Fatikchari of Khagrachari located on the banks of the river after incessant heavy rains and torrents coming down from Tripura in India. The BGB of 43 Battalion rescued nearly 2,000 water-strapped people on Thursday and Friday and provided them with dry and prepared food. During this time, BGB also rescued many cattle trapped in water.
The water of Feni River was flowing along Ramgarh, Matiranga and North Phatikchari in South Tripura and Khagrachari in India far above the floodplain and floods many villages along the banks. Most of the year this river has a slow current and now takes a terrible form of memory. The villagers of Tirrarti said that they never thought that Feninadi would suddenly take such a terrible shape. In a short time, the river flooded and drowned the nearby villages. The villagers did not have time to leave their houses and take shelter anywhere. They were shocked by the sudden waterlogging. In this situation BGB members from BOP came forward to save their lives. Abul Hashem, a 64-year-old resident of Andharmanik, said that the BGB used boats and rafts to rescue helpless people trapped in water and bring them to a safe place. He also said that they rescued cows and goats.
According to BGB, 303 members of 69 families under the responsibility of Andharmanik BOP under Ramgarh Battalion (43 BGB), 600 members of 105 families responsible for Naluatila BOP, 206 members of 41 families responsible for Lacharipara BOP and 441 members of 81 families responsible for Lakshmichhara BOP total 296 families. BGB managed to rescue 550 members and move them to a safe place. Apart from this, on Thursday, immediate relief materials were distributed among 200 poor and helpless families affected by sudden floods in the battalion’s responsible area. These relief items include rice, pulses, potatoes, onions, oil, salt and dry food items include chira, muri, biscuits, pure water, jaggery and banana. BGB also informed that the operation of rescuing people trapped in water was also carried out on Friday. Dry and prepared food and relief materials were distributed among the needy people of Banvasi under various BOPs on Friday. About 425 families are given these humanitarian aid.
