BGB operation at border: Cigarettes, tea leaves seized in Zakiganj, more than 1,500 bottles of liquor seized in Companiganj

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized a large amount of Indian goods in separate operations to prevent smuggling and drugs at the border.
Cigarettes, leaf bidis, tea leaves, sugar, betel nuts, cows and a large amount of liquor were seized in these operations conducted at the Zakiganj and Companiganj borders of Sylhet district on September 6 and 7.
A BGB press release said that on the night of September 6, a patrol team of Laxmibazar BOP conducted an operation in the Maiyakhali area of Zakiganj upazila. At that time, 14,400 pieces of Indian cigarettes and 1,91,000 pieces of leaf bidis were seized in ownerless conditions. The estimated market value of which is 6 lakh 70 thousand taka.
Later, on the morning of September 7, patrol teams from Jaintapur, Guabari and Suraighat BOPs conducted separate raids in the Jaintapur and Kanaighat border areas. During this, 350 kg of Indian tea leaves, 200 kg of sugar, 100 kg of betel nuts and a cow were seized without an owner. The estimated value of these goods is 2 lakh 70 thousand taka.
On the other hand, a special patrol team of Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) conducted a raid on the Najurbhanga border in Companiganj upazila in the early hours of September 7. At that time, drug smugglers fled after being chased, and 1,571 bottles of various types of Indian liquor were seized from the spot.
The commander of Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) said, “As per the instructions of the higher headquarters, BGB’s raids and intelligence activities are continuing to maintain security in the border area, prevent smuggling and drug trafficking. In continuation of this, a large amount of foreign liquor has been seized. Legal action will be taken regarding the recovered liquor.”
Lt. Col. Md. Zubair Anwar, PSC, Commander of Zakiganj Battalion (19 BGB), said-
Intelligence activities and anti-smuggling operations are being conducted regularly for border security. The border will be kept safe with the cooperation of the people.
Incidentally, such operations of BGB are continuing to prevent illegal smuggling and drugs in the border areas, which are playing an important role in maintaining the country’s economy, public health and law and order.
