BGB observes ‘National Martyred Army Day’

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) observed National Martyred Army Day with due dignity and solemn tributes to the victims of the 2009 Pilkhana massacre, where 57 army officers and several others lost their lives in the brutal attack at the then Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) headquarters.

As part of the observance, special Quran recitations (Khatm-e-Quran) were held from Fajr prayer until Zuhr at all BGB mosques, including those in its headquarters in Pilkhana, as well as its regional, sector, and unit offices across the country.

The BGB regimental flag was lowered to half-mast, and all members of the force wore black badges as a mark of respect for the fallen officers.

At 9:00 AM, BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui paid homage to the martyrs by laying a floral wreath at the Banani Military Cemetery’s memorial monument. In his message for the day, he prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls and extended his deep condolences to the grieving families of the victims.

Special Prayers and Memorial Gathering
Following the Asr prayer, special dua and milad mahfil were organized at the BGB Central Mosque in Pilkhana, as well as in all regional, sector, and unit mosques and Border Outposts (BOPs).

The event at the BGB Central Mosque was attended by Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Chairman of the National Independent Investigation Commission on the BDR Massacre, Major General (Retd.) A.L.M. Fazlur Rahman, along with other commission members, the BGB Director General, invited dignitaries from the Ministry of Home Affairs, relatives of the martyrs, and officers and personnel of BGB, including civilian staff working in Pilkhana.
