BGB destroys drugs worth Tk 1,322 crore in Cox’s Bazar

A record amount of drugs worth Taka 1,322 crore seized in anti-drug operations under Ramu sector of Cox’s Bazar Region of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were destroyed on Wednesday morning, said a BGB press release.

A total of 2,00,33,949 pieces of Yaba, 140.049 kg of crystal meth (ice), 25.998 kg of heroin, 4.405 kg of cocaine, 52.800 kg of marijuana, four kg of opium, 61,491 cans of beer, 22,155 bottles of various types of liquor, two bottles of whiskey, 1,799.3 liters of Bengali liquor, 169 bottles of Phensidyl, 192 cans of Commando Energy Drink, 540 cans of Burmese Jorda, 3,37,642 packets of cigarettes and 800 pieces of tablets (Target) were destroyed in a programme organized at the training ground of Cox’s Bazar Battalion (34 BGB) under the management of BGB’s Ramu Sector.

It is worth mentioning that last year, the battalions under the Ramu sector of Cox’s Bazar region conducted anti-drug operations in border areas and other places and were able to seize drugs worth about Taka 2,216 crore and arrested 2,693 accused in this connection, reports BSS.
Out of this, 2,693 were arrested with drugs worth Taka 895 crore handed over to the police station and drugs worth Taka 1,322 crore destroyed yesterday.

The programme was addressed by BGB Cox’s Bazar Region Commander Brigadier General Mohammad Aksar Khan, BGB Ramu Sector Commander Colonel Md Mohiuddin Ahmed, Rab-15 Commander Lt. Colonel Kamrul Hasan, Cox’s Bazar District Superintendent of Police Saifuddin Shaheen and Cox’s Bazar District Administration Additional District Magistrate Shahidul Alam.
The BGB Region Commander Aksar Khan said that drugs are a silent killer for the social degradation, public safety and economic stability of Bangladesh.
