BFFS gets new body

The National Film Societies Conference-2025’ organised by the Bangladesh Federation of Film Societies (BFFS) with the participation of university, division and district level organisations (film societies or film clubs) across the country was held recently at the seminar room of Bangladesh Film Archive, said a press release.

Representatives of 40 organisations from all over the country attended the conference and five more organisations attended online.

John Paulo, president of the International Federation of Film Societies, joined online. Representatives of film societies from different parts of the country gave details of the activities of their respective organisations in the conference which started.

Various problems like the
challenges of organising film exhibitions, audience crisis, financial constraints and lack of quality films came up in the discussion.

At the same time, possibilities such as the development of grassroots film
culture, creating new audiences and giving opportunities to local talent were also discussed in the conference.

The conference unanimously announced a 15-member
committee of the Bangladesh Federation of Film Societies, with Jahirul Islam Kochi as president and Mohammad Nurullah as general secretary.

The other members of the committee are: Vice President: Masud Rana (Mirpur Film Club), Vice President: Women’s Film Society of Bangladesh (representative), Joint General Secretary: Abdullah Al Maruf (Royal Bengal Film Society), Finance Secretary: Ashraf Rony (Cinephile Film Club), Organising Secretary: Sadman Shahriar (Jagannath University Film Club), Publicity and Publication Editor: Ahmed Tepantar Awal (Sergey Bondarchuk Film Club), Office Editor: Mahfuzul Islam Khan (Sundarban Film Society).

The members of the executive committee are: Abdullah Boni (Bagerhat Film Society), Chittagong University Film Society (representative), TFP Film Club, Dhaka University (Representative), Zahir Raihan Film Society, (Representative), BCCI Film Club, (Representative), Brahmaputra Film Society, Mymensingh (Representative).

Besides, former presidents Professor Abdus Selim, Shariful Islam, Mir Shamsul Alam Babu, and Dr Shaheen Bin Abdul Hai have been appointed as advisors.

The new general secretary, Mohammad Nurullah said, “The main objective of this conference is to bring together the film societies of the country on a single platform and become aware of their problems and possibilities.”
The BFFS declared to take necessary steps to make the activities of these organisations more dynamic in future.

Taking over as the new president, Jahirul Islam Kochi said, “Marginalised voices have been heard through this
conference. The changes
will be implemented soon.”
