A local leader of Awami League was chopped to death by unknown miscreants at Hatura village in Bera upazila on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Mokaddes Hossain Mukul, 45, general secretary of Haturia-Nakalia union unit of Awami League and also headmaster of Nakalia Anwar Kader Girls High School of the upazila.
Tofazzal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Brea Police Station, said a group of miscreants attacked Mukul and chopped him indiscriminately when he was returning from the local market along with his friend Hazrat Ali in a motorcycle at around 10:00 pm on Sunday. Both of them were rushed to Enayetpur Hospital where doctors declared Mukul dead. A case was filed in this connection.
