Bengali New Year celebrated with colourful arrangements in Rangpur

Forgetting the differences between religion and culture, the universal festival of Bengalis, Pahela Boishakh, is being celebrated with colorful arrangements in Rangpur like the rest of the country.
The Bengali New Year 1432 began with a colorful procession and cultural performances on Monday morning. At 10 am, a colorful procession highlighting rural traditions was taken out from the Rangpur District School’s Battala under the initiative of the Rangpur District Administration. The enthusiasm of people of different ages, including children, teenagers, and young people, wearing colorful clothes, dancing, singing, and making noise created a different atmosphere in the procession.
Bengali New Year 1432 was celebrated with colorful arrangements at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur. On this occasion, Monday (April 14, 2025) at 9:30 am, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shawkat Ali inaugurated the colorful New Year’s Eve procession from the south gate of the university’s administrative building.
To the tune of Baishakh songs, flutes and music, the procession circled the main roads of the campus, Park intersection, Shaheed Abu Sayeed Square, Modern intersection and ended in front of the academic building. With the participation of teachers, students, officials and employees, various traditions and cultures of Bengali society were displayed in the procession.
After the procession, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shawkat Ali visited the stalls of the Baisakhi fair organized by various departments in front of the academic buildings and exchanged New Year greetings with the teachers and students.
At that time, he said, Bengali New Year is a festival of our traditional tradition and identity. The way Begum Rokeya University is celebrating the Bengali New Year by preserving Bengali heritage and culture is truly commendable. The Vice Chancellor also said that Bengali heritage should never be lost, so we should move forward towards the future by preserving Bengali culture and heritage to build a new Bangladesh.
A delightful cultural program was organized at the Media Complex in the afternoon on the occasion of PohelaBaishakh. In addition, special food was arranged for the students of the three residential halls of the university.
It is worth noting that a two-day program was organized at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur to celebrate the Bengali New Year. On the first day, 30 Chaitra (April 13, 2025) in the afternoon, a kite festival was organized at the university’s football field.
