Begumganj police station OC Md Kamruzzaman Sikdar has been withdrawn over the recent sectarian violence in Noakhali’s Choumuhani during Durga Puja celebrations and attached to the Industrial Police.
Mir Jahedula Haque Rony has replaced Kamruzzaman as the Begumganj OC, Noakhali Superintendent of Police Md Shahidul Islam told the media on Friday.
Meanwhile, an accused arrested over the attacks,
Abdur Rahim Sujon, 19, gave a confessional statement on Thursday.
Police arrested him from the Karimpur area in Choumuhani city earlier that day.
Items looted from Hindu businesses were recovered from his possession, SP Shahidul said.
The court recorded his confession and sent him to jail, he added.
Police so far arrested some 130 people for their alleged involvement in the attacks on the Choumuhani market area in Noakhali’s Begumganj upazila.
