Sr. staff Reporter, Rangpur:
A discussion meeting was organised at Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur to observe March 25 Genocide Day, remembering the tragic events of the 1971 Liberation War.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Shawkat Ali was present as the chief guest at the discussion meeting held in the Syndicate Room of the administrative building of the university on Tuesday morning.
At that time, he said on this day in 1971, a terrible night descended on the life of the Bengali nation. At midnight on March 25, the barbaric Pakistani invading forces armed with sophisticated weapons carried out genocide across the country including Dhaka.
He further said there is no difference between the genocide of innocent unarmed Bengalis in 1971 and the massacres of July-August 2024. To prevent such barbaric massacres from happening in the future, it is necessary to ensure a fair trial of the 2024 genocide.
The discussion meeting was addressed as a special guest by the heroic freedom fighter Md Ansar Ali. In his speech, he highlighted various incidents of the brutal massacre by the Pakistani invaders in 1791.
