Staff Reporter :

The bail hearing of 263 BDR members in the case filed under the Explosives Act related to the BDR mutiny at Pilkhana in the capital has been postponed once again.

The hearing and witness testimony were scheduled for Thursday at Dhaka Special Tribunal-2, presided over by Judge Md. Ibrahim Mia.

However, as the judge was unwell, the court rescheduled the hearing for May 8, confirmed defense lawyer Advocate Parvez Hossain.

He said, “Today was set for the hearing of bail applications and witness testimonies for the 263 accused BDR members in the Explosives Act case stemming from the mutiny. But like before, the judge’s illness led to another postponement.”

This is now the fourth time the court has deferred the bail order. Previously, on March 13, the court held a hearing on the matter and scheduled the verdict for March 16. That was postponed to March 17, which again resulted in no verdict, leading to a new date of April 10.

The repeated delays citing the judge’s illness have raised public suspicion about the proceedings.
Earlier, on January 19, the same court granted bail to 178 BDR members who had been acquitted by a lower court, as there was no appeal filed against their acquittal in the higher court.

It’s worth noting that the BDR mutiny took place on February 25-26, 2009, at the then BDR (now BGB) headquarters in Pilkhana, where 74 people, including 57 army officers, were brutally killed.
