B’desh heading towards desired dev : Speaker
The visiting German Parliamentary delegation on Monday called on Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury at the latter’s office here. Chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on Economic Cooperation and Development Dagmar G Woehrl led the nine-member German delegation, a parliament secretariat press release said. During the meeting, they discussed various issues including the working atmosphere in the Bangladesh’s garment industry and labour safety measurers.At the very outset of the meeting, Ms Dagmar Woehrl congratulated the Jatiya Sangsad speaker for being the first female Speaker of Bangladesh and praised her leadership role in running the parliament affairs.Dagmar Woehrl also informed the speaker about their visit to textile factories and Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) in Savar.About the current 10th parliament, the speaker said the new parliament has already completed its first session where the treasury and opposition bench members played their due role in the House by joining the session.She said Bangladesh has been progressing towards desired development through giving democracy an institutional shape. The Speaker said the government has taken necessary measurers to improve working condition in the country’s garment industry with ensuring minimum wage for the workers and giving priority to safety issue.In this connection, she informed the delegation that necessary amendments have been brought to the Labour Law by ensuring the right of trade union and attaching importance on labour safety issue.
