Bangladesh Youth Cricket team beat Afghanistan Youth Cricket team by five runs (according to the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern Method) in their first one-day match at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogura on Tuesday.

Electing to bat first, Afghanistan piled up a fighting 265 for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 50 overs.

Later, Bangladesh had a target of 226 to win in 46 overs due to bad light and Bangladesh scored 231 for the loss of four wickets in 46 overs and won the match.

Bangladesh lost their early three wickets for 60 runs. Second-down Kalim Siddiki and third-down Rizan Hossan rescued their team from disaster scoring together 139 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Kalim Siddiki was caught by wicketkeeper Khalid Ahmadzai off Wahidullah Zadran when the Junior Tigers’ total was 199 for the loss of four wickets.

Kalim notched up a terrific 101. His 119-ball innings studded with 11 fours.

After Kalim’s dismissal, Rizan Hossan and Mohammad Abdullah helped their side to reach the victory target putting together 32 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket partnership. Rizan Hossan remained unbeaten with 75. His 96-ball knock was belted with three sixes and two fours.

Abdullah remained unbeaten with 12 runs. Wahidullah Zadran was his team’s most successful batter with two wickets for 47 runs. Earlier, Iqbal Hossain Emon played the key role to restrict Afghanistan to 265. Emon completed his superb spell as 10-1-57-5. He was adjudged the Man of the Match.
