BD, Pak agree to deepen labour sector coop

Bangladesh and Pakistan have agreed to strengthen collaboration in the labour and employment sector, emphasizing joint efforts to tackle challenges related to overseas employment, skills development, and worker welfare.
The agreement came during a bilateral meeting between Bangladesh’s Labour and Employment Adviser M Sakhawat Hossain and Pakistan’s Labour Minister Faisal Ayub Khokhar, held on the sidelines of the Sixth OIC Labour Ministers’ Conference in Doha, according to a press release issued on Thursday.
Adviser Sakhawat Hossain called for coordinated measures to address issues faced by migrant workers and urged enhanced connectivity between the two countries to boost trade, tourism, and cultural exchange.
Minister Khokhar underscored the importance of regular labour dialogue and technical cooperation to promote mutual growth.
Both sides agreed to launch joint training initiatives, strengthen human resource development, create employment opportunities, and share labour market information.
They also pledged to enhance collaboration in skills development and labour migration management to better equip workers for global job opportunities.
Senior officials from Bangladesh’s labour ministry and embassy in Qatar were present at the meeting.
The two-day OIC Labour Ministers’ Conference, themed “Local Experience, Global Achievements: Success Stories in the Islamic World,” has drawn participation from labour ministers of member states, international organisations, experts, and civil society representative.
