The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced on Thursday the 16-member Bangladesh Cricket squad for the upcoming three-match One Day International (ODI) series against West Indies. Mahidul Islam Ankon has been called for the first time in Bangladesh ODI Cricket squad. Experienced Soumya Sarkar has been included in the squad.
Bangladesh were whitewashed by Afghanistan in the three-match ODI series in the United Arab Emirates recently. Naim Sheikh and Nahid Rana have been dropped from the squad. Litton Das could not take part in the three-match ODI series against West Indies due to injury.
Litton Das could not play against Afghanistan as he was injured. Soumya Sarkar is the replacement of him. Soumya Sarkar was included Bangladesh ODI squad for Afghanistan series but Soumya could not play the Afghanistan ODI series due to visa complications.
Mahidul Islam Ankon showed a spectacular performance in the outgoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Cricket. He was called by BCB that time. But Ankon could play just one international match.
He made his debut against South Africa in a Test match October last. After that, he did not get chance in Bangladesh’s squad. Besides, Ankon showed a consistent performance in the recently concluded National Cricket League (NCL) T20.
Prolific all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has retained his captaincy.
Bangladesh will take on West Indies in the first ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur on October 18. The Tigers will face the Caribbeans in the second ODI at the same venue on October 21. Bangladesh will meet West Indies in the third ODI at the same venue on October 23.
After finishing the three-match ODI series, Bangladesh Cricket squad and West Indies Cricket squad will go to Chattogram to play three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. Bangladesh will face off West Indies in the first T20I at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram on October 27.
The Tigers will take on West Indies in the second T20I at the same venue on October 29. Bangladesh will meet West Indies in the third T20I at the same venue on October 31.
