BD mission in Port Louis launches E-Passport services

The Bangladesh High Commission in Port Louis officially inaugurated the e-passport service for the expatriates on Saturday.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Dr. Jaki Ahad, High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Mauritius.

The special guest at the event was Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Monzur-E-Elahi, Deputy Project Director of the e-Passport and Automated Border Control Management Project.

The special guest gave a brief speech highlighting the importance of the e-passport project, focusing on the technology involved and the importance of its proper use.

In his speech, the chief guest, High Commissioner Dr. Jaki Ahad, paid deep tribute to the martyrs of the July-August 2024 student uprising and respectfully remembered all the valiant freedom fighters of the glorious Liberation War of Bangladesh.

He mentioned that with the launch of the e-passport service, the immigration process for expatriate Bangladeshis in Mauritius would become easier, and the dignity of our citizens would be elevated.

He further stated that as the e-passport process employs the most modern technology, its credibility and acceptability would increase significantly, encouraging many countries to sign visa exemption agreements with Bangladesh. This would, in turn, enhance Bangladesh’s global reputation and prestige.

He expressed gratitude to the Department of Passports and the e-Passport Project for making the Bangladesh High Commission in Port Louis, Mauritius the 58th Bangladesh mission abroad to launch this service.

The High Commissioner urged all Bangladeshis residing in Mauritius to work collectively and diligently to uphold the reputation and honor of the country.
After the formal inauguration, as part of the commencement of the service, High Commissioner Dr. Jaki Ahad and Deputy Project Director Lt. Col.

Mohammad Monzur-E-Elahi handed over delivery slips to two applicants.
Following this, on behalf of the e-Passport Project, Lt. Col. Mohammad Monzur-E-Elahi presented a crest to the Honorable High Commissioner. The High Commissioner then visited the e-passport service and enrollment process.

It is noteworthy that from now on, Bangladeshis residing in Mauritius can apply for e-passports with a validity of 5 or 10 years.

Distinguished members of the Bangladeshi community in Mauritius, working professionals, e-passport applicants, officials from Dhaka associated with the e-passport project, and all officials and staff of the High Commission were present at the inauguration ceremony.
