The Government of Bangladesh and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Republic of Korea, have signed the Record of Discussion (RoD) and Terms of Reference (ToR) for a new project titled “Education and Research Capacity Building of the National Institute of Advanced Nursing Education and Research (NIANER) in Bangladesh.”
Under this initiative, KOICA will provide a grant of US$5.9 million to support implementation, which will be carried out by the Directorate General of Nursing and Midwifery under the Medical Education and Family Welfare Division, according to a press release from the Economic Relations Division (ERD).
On behalf of the Government of Bangladesh, Mirana Mahrukh, Additional Secretary and Wing Chief (Asia, JEC and F&F) at ERD, signed the documents, while Jihoon Kim, Country Director of KOICA, represented the Republic of Korea.
The project seeks to create a strong foundation for advancing nursing education by introducing a PhD program and specialized training at NIANER. Significantly, this marks the first-ever initiative in Bangladesh’s history that opens the path for nurses to pursue doctoral-level education.
