Bangladesh Hockey team kept their hope alive to play in the World Cup (WC) Hockey Qualifiers after defeating Kazakhstan Hockey team 5-1 in a place-deciding match of the Asian Cup Hockey at Rajgir in Bihar of India on Thursday.
Ashraful Islam of Bangladesh put his team ahead by scoring a goal utilising a penalty corner in the 10th minute of the play.
Ashraful Islam doubled the margin by a penalty stroke in the 23rd minute of the game.
Roman Sarkar made it 3-0 by a field goal in the 28th minute of the match.
Roman Sarkar increased the tally into 4-0 capitalising a penalty corner in the 33rd minute of the clash.
After one minute, Tayab Ali made it 5-0 by a field goal.
Aitkaliyev of Kazakhstan pulled off one by a field goal in the 38th minute of the game.
Bangladesh made a sorrow start as they lost to stronger Malaysia by 1-4 goals in their opening Pool-B match of the Asia Cup Hockey at the same venue on August 29.
The red-and-green outfit bounced back after thrashing Chinese Taipei by 8-3 goals in their second Pool-B match of Asia Cup Hockey at the same venue on August 30.
Bangladesh finished their Pool-B campaign of Asia Cup Hockey with a sorrow note as they suffered a 1-5 goals defeat to South Korea on September 1. Bangladesh will face Japan in the 5th-6th deciding match at the same venue on September 7 (Sunday). If Bangladesh win against Japan in Sunday’s match, Bangladesh will get tickets to play in the World Cup Hockey Qualifiers. If Bangladesh lose to Japan in Sunday’s match, Bangladesh have to play a three-match series against Pakistan. The winning team of the best of three-match between Bangladesh and Pakistan will play in the World Cup Hockey Qualifiers.
