China has launched a special ‘Green Channel’ visa facility for Bangladeshi citizens seeking medical treatment there, a major step to boost healthcare collaboration and offer affordable medical solutions.

The Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh on Sunday noted that this initiative comes in the wake of Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus’s recent visit to China, during which both countries agreed to strengthen public health cooperation and ease travel processes for medical purposes.

Under this new arrangement, Bangladeshi patients will face simplified documentation requirements.

Licensed Bangladeshi travel agencies can now issue guarantee letters on behalf of travelers, eliminating the need for authenticated bank deposit certificates or proof of kinship from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Embassy has also prioritised medical visa applications through a dedicated visa counter at the Chinese Visa Application Center in Banani, Dhaka.

Applicants arriving with complete documents can now submit them immediately without having to wait in line, and in emergency medical cases, visas may be issued on the same day.

To further support this initiative, the Embassy and Visa Center have established hotline numbers and a WhatsApp service group to respond quickly to medical visa inquiries.

Online applications will receive immediate attention, ensuring a faster and smoother process. The interview procedure has also been streamlined.

Applicants with scheduled appointments will be given priority without waiting in queues, and for patients unable to attend in person due to medical conditions, remote interviews may be arranged with the support of a travel agency’s guarantee letter.

The Chinese government has expressed its openness in allowing Bangladeshi travel agencies to collaborate with any accredited Chinese hospitals.

There are no restrictions on which hospitals or agencies can assist applicants, providing patients with greater freedom to choose the best possible care.

With China’s vast experience in international medical treatment and diagnostics, more Bangladeshi citizens are now expected to seek quality and cost-effective healthcare services in Chinese hospitals.

For more details, applicants can contact the Chinese Embassy at 02222260103 or 01708464809, the Visa Center at 02226603261, or reach out via WhatsApp at 01885041364.

Earlier, the Chinese government designated four hospitals in Kunming for Bangladeshi patients are: the First People’s Hospital of Yunnan Province, the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, Fuwai Yunnan Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and the Traditional Chinese Medical Hospital (TCM).

The Chinese government came up with this collaboration with Bangladesh with the request of the interim government.

Prof Muhammad Yunus requested the Chinese government to support for medical healthcare as Bangladeshi patients were not getting Indian visas for medical treatment after the toppling of the previous Awami League government in a mass upsurge last year.

To ensure the improved medical care, the interim government requested China to open its door. In response, China immediately designated four hospitals and first batch of patients had already gone to China for treatment.

Now the Chinese government announced that Bangladeshi patients can now take medical care in any hospitals of China as the Chinese government opened the fast-track medical visa ‘Green Channel’.
