The Government of Bangladesh has strongly condemned the violence carried out by a group called “Bongo Hindu Jagoron” outside the Bangladeshi Deputy High Commission in Kolkata. It also urged the Indian government to take necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
Foreign affairs ministry said this in a press release issued on Friday.
It said, “The Government of Bangladesh is deeply concerned about the violent protest staged by a Hindu organisation named ‘Bongo Hindu Jagoron’ in front of the Bangladeshi Deputy High Commission in Kolkata the previous afternoon. The demonstration turned violent as protesters broke through police barricades and reached the premises of the deputy high commission.
“They set fire to the national flag of Bangladesh and burned an effigy of the chief advisor of the Bangladesh government. Although the situation now appears to be under control, a sense of insecurity persists among all members of the deputy high commission.”
The statement added that, “The Government of Bangladesh strongly condemns the despicable act of dishonoring the national flag and burning an effigy of the chief advisor. The Bangladesh government has called upon the Indian authorities to take necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.”
