Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has strongly condemned the recent terrible attack in Indian-administered Kashmir, which tragically claimed the lives of at least 26 tourists.
In a message addressed to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Prof Yunus conveyed Bangladesh’s deepest sympathies and reaffirmed the country’s unwavering position against terrorism.
“We unequivocally denounce this heinous act of violence. I would like to reiterate Bangladesh’s firm commitment to the global fight against terrorism,” he stated.
The attack occurred on Tuesday in the Pahalgam region of Kashmir, where unidentified gunmen opened fire at a resort, resulting in the deaths of over 20 people. The incident marks a concerning escalation in the regional conflict, as such violence has rarely targeted tourists in the past.
“Please accept my heartfelt condolences for the tragic loss of lives in the terror incident in Kashmir,” Prof Yunus added.
Prof Yunus is currently in Doha, Qatar, attending the Earthna Summit. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) of Bangladesh has also issued a statement condemning the attack in the strongest terms.
“Bangladesh condemns the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, India, which has led to the tragic loss of innocent lives,” the statement read. The ministry extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and expressed sympathy for all those affected by what it termed “a senseless act of violence.”
The Government of Bangladesh reiterated its steadfast commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, and reaffirmed its support for international efforts to promote peace, security, and stability.
