Bangladesh has advanced one spot in the global passport power rankings, now placing 181st out of 200 countries up from 182nd last year.

The ranking comes from the latest 2025 update of the Nomad Capitalist Passport Index, an international assessment that evaluates passports based on global mobility, dual citizenship opportunities, tax benefits, and personal freedom.

According to the report released on Friday, Bangladesh scored 38 this year. Bangladeshi passport holders can currently travel to 50 countries visa-free or with a visa on arrival. In 2024, the score was 37.5, allowing access to 49 such countries.

Ireland claimed the top spot as the world’s most powerful passport in this year’s index, followed by Switzerland, Greece, Portugal, Malta, Italy, Norway, Luxembourg, Finland, and Iceland making up the top 10. In South Asia, Nepal ranks just above Bangladesh with a score of 39.5, while Myanmar ranks just below with 37.5.

India holds the 148th position with a score of 47.5, and Pakistan ranks 195th with a score of 32.

Despite its low overall ranking, Bangladesh’s slight improvement in mobility is seen as a positive shift. However, experts suggest that broader diplomatic engagement and strategic agreements are essential to significantly enhance the global strength of the Bangladeshi passport.
