Officials from the BCS Health Cadre Association staged a sit-in protest outside the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) office in Mohakhali on Tuesday, demanding the immediate removal of all corrupt officials within the directorate, including the Director General (DG).
The sit-in, which began around 11:00 a.m., saw health cadre officials present a two-point demand. They called for the resignation of the DG, accusing him of delaying the cancellation of postings for officials who had been appointed on an ad hoc basis. Additionally, they demanded an end to all illegal recruitments, promotions, and postings within the DGHS.
The protesters warned that if these demands are not met promptly, they will escalate their actions to a long-term program.
During the protest, officials voiced their frustration, alleging widespread irregularities and corruption within the health directorate over the past 15 years.
Umme Tania Nasrin, member secretary of the BCS Health Cadre Association, addressed the gathering, stating, “We have been demonstrating for a six-point demand, including the cancellation of illegal stabilisation of ad hoc officials in ad hoc services, but now we are focussing on two key points.”
She further elaborated, “We have been observing with concern that some unscrupulous officials within the DGHS and the Ministry of Health have been promoting and posting ad hoc appointees and project officers to cadre posts under various recruitment rules in recent years, in violation of government service regulations. Our second demand is to cancel all illegal promotions and appointments.”
