Protesting the commercialisation of higher education, the Government College BCS General Education Association Unit in Betagi, Barguna, organised a human chain. The protest demands the cancellation of the SWUL model and calls for the inclusion of the BCS General Education Cadre at all levels from academic to administrative within the proposed Dhaka Central University, while preserving the unique structure of the capital’s historic seven government colleges.
The human chain took place on Wednesday at 12:30 PM in front of the main gate of Betagi Government College. Speeches were delivered by Principal of Betagi Government College, Professor Samar Kumar Bepari; General Secretary of the College Teachers’ Council, Lecturer Emadul Haq Shaheen; Lecturer Md. Hamim Hossain of the Department of Political Science; and Lecturer Md. Zihadul Kabir Raj of the Department of Botany.
All department heads and other faculty members of the college participated in the programme.
During the human chain, Principal Professor Samar Kumar Bepari emphasised the need to prevent the exclusion of the large number of students from higher education.
He strongly demanded that the SWUL model be cancelled and that the BCS General Education Cadre be included at all academic and administrative levels of the proposed Dhaka Central University, while maintaining the distinct structure of the seven historic government colleges in the capital.
