BCL cadres damage car of BNP candidate in Gournadi

Cadres of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student front of ruling Awami League on Friday noon attacked the microbus of BNP nominated upazila chairman candidate Abul Hossain Mia damaged the vehicle.
The incident was happened at about 11:30 am at Gournadi bus stand area on Barisal-Dhaka Highway.
Witnesses said Air Vice Marshal (rtd) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, central BNP vice president and former home minister, Barrister Shahjahan Omar, advisor of the BNP Chairperson and former state minister for law, in a microbus on their way to Barisal from Dhaka stopped at Gournadi for a short break.
At that time Abul Hossain Mia, upazila secretary and nominated upazila chairman candidate of BNP , Kalam Khan, upazila BNP vice president , Shamim Haoladar, student affairs secretary, Jabbar Khan , Sahabuddin Bepari, Arif Hossain, upazila Jubo Dal leaders, with a microbus and some activists welcomed the central leaders near Gournadi
bus stand area.
After exchanging greeting with the local leaders and activists when Altaf and Omar riding on their microbus to leave the place and chairman candidate Abul Hossain attempted to follow them, suddenly a group of BCL activists led by upazila BCL secretary Jubayerul Islam Santu attacked and damaged the microbus Abul Hossain.
Backside glass of the attacked microbus damaged and two passengers sustained minor injuries, Abul Hossain said.
Shahjahan Omar said the incident was unexpected and regrettable.
Altaf Chowdhury was not available for comment, but his personal secretary Mr. Nasir said that he also condemned the attack.
Syed Mahbub Alam, Gournadi upazila BCL president denying the allegation told BCL activists were not involved in the attack on BNP leader’s car.
Abul Kalam Azad, Gournadi police station in charge,said no incident of attack on BNP leaders was happened. However BNP and BCL activistsengaged in altercation on holding rally after the BNP leaders left the place.
