DU Correspondent :
A female student of a private university of the capital was allegedly slapped and harassed on Dhaka University (DU) campus by an activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL)DU unit.
The accident took place in front of Raju Memorial Scripture of the university around 3.00 am on Monday night. Later, the girl filed a complaint to the proctor’s office of DU on Tuesday.
But the DU student, Nazmul Islam, an activist of Masterda Surya Sen Hall unit BCL and also a residential student of Masterda Surja Sen Hall, denied the allegation and claimed that the girl assaulted him.
Eyewitnesses said when the female student was taking the photograph of the foot of Raju Sculpture, two DU students namely Zim Nazmul and Mehedi arrived at the spot riding on a bike.
Then, they started questioning the student and treating them as outsider on the campus. At one stage, they snatched the student’s mobile phone and slapped her.
Najmul claimed that he stopped his bike along with a friend when he saw the girl and her friends were filming floating people who were asleep on the footpath.
The accused claimed that the girl slapped him when he asked to know the reason of filming the floating people without their permission.
“Later an altercation broke out and he also retaliated and slapped the girl back,” he added.
‘After my birthday celebration, I was standing in front of the sculpture with my friends and taking pictures. At that time two boys stopped their bike and started questioning us with indecent words against me. They teased me and slapped me when I protested,’ the girl told the media.
“We are investigating the incident. The girl is not our student, so we have advised her take legal steps,” DU Proctor AKM Golam Rabbani said.
