A Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activist named Rashed Sikder (24) was beaten to death in Gournadi upazila of Barishal district. Rashed is the son of Kamal Sikdar of Bara Dulali village of Barthi Union of Upazila.
The officer-in-charge (OC) of Gournadi Police Station Anwar Hossain confirmed this information on on Saturday (August 17). OC Anwar Hossain said apart from sending the dead body to Barishal SBMCH morgue for post-mortem, legal action is being taken regarding the incident.
Based on the preliminary information given by the relatives, the OC said that Rashed lived in Dhaka. When he visited the village home recently, some young men asked for money. And not getting that money, they beat him on Friday (16 August) night. Relatives said that he was seriously injured when he was hit on the head with a wood.
Relatives said Rashed was first admitted to Gournadi Upazila Health Complex and later sent to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBBMCH). From there, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition at night. He died there on early Saturday while undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s father Kalam Sikder said Rashed had been working in a plastic factory in Dhaka for a long time. On Friday afternoon, Rashed came to visit the village house.
After Friday evening, local miscreants attacked him in a planned manner and seriously injured him by beating him. The family is preparing to file a murder case in this incident.
