Staff Reporter :
In response to a severe cash shortage, Bangladesh Bank provided approximately Tk 25,521 crore in loans to commercial banks and financial institutions in a single day, on Wednesday.

The central bank’s data revealed that Shariah-based banks borrowed around Tk 1,500 crore, while other banks and financial institutions accounted for the remaining amount.

The press release from the central bank on Thursday detailed that commercial banks faced an intense demand for cash on Wednesday.

This was due to a four-hour reopening after a period of closure caused by a curfew.

The shortage of money in ATM booths and days of internet shutdown further escalated the demand for cash.
