In recent years,despite all challenges Bayer is scaling up its local production of Boro hybrids and reached to a capability to export hybrid rice seeds after meeting the local demands.
This year, Bayer Bangladesh is exporting significant quantity of Boro hybrid to the Philippines to mark a history of rice seeds export from Bangladesh.
Aman hybrids seeds production remains a challenge due to climatic conditions whereas availability of good Hybrids is equally important in Aman Season. Seed industry is still dependent on import for Aman hybrids due to production challenges.
Bayer CropScience Ltd., Bangladesh is exporting its locally produced hybrid rice seeds to the Philippines for the first time and opened a new window of export. Bayer Bangladeshorganized a ceremony in their Seed Processing Center premises in presence of Md Abu Zubair Hossain Bablu, Director General, Seed Wing, Ministry of Agriculture, Bangladeshand Zahidul Islam, Managing Director, Bayer CropScience Ltd., Bangladesh with DAE, other Govt.,and Bayer Officials.
Zahidul Islam, Managing Director, Bayer CropScience Ltd., Bangladesh added in his speech: “Bayer in Bangladesh is bringing many new technologies & services for the benefit of farmers;to establish facilities & have the capability of local production of its own hybrid rice seeds is also one of them. Already Bayer Bangladesh team reached the capability to produce locally the Boro hybrid rice seeds, and to exportafter meeting the local demand.”
