The three-day ‘Annual Workshop on Research Progress 2023-24’ organized by the Bangladesh Agricultural University Research System (BAURES) commenced yesterday, focusing on the theme, Foresting Climate Resilient Agriculture in Bangladesh: Reshaping Agricultural Research and Education Systems.
Since its inception, BAURES has completed 4,537 research projects, while 674 projects are currently ongoing, contributing significantly to agricultural advancements in the country.
The inaugural session, held at the Syed Nazrul Islam Conference Room was opened with a welcome speech by BAURES Associate Director Professor Dr. Muhammad Javidul Haque Bhuiyan. Addressing the workshop, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan highlighted the significance of the event’s theme, emphasizing that Bangladesh’s geographical location makes it highly vulnerable to climate change, posing severe challenges to agriculture. He expressed optimism that BAU’s innovative research and commitment to agricultural education would ensure a more sustainable and resilient agricultural sector. “Through innovative research and capacity building, farmers and researchers will be able to tackle the challenges of climate change together. Our collective efforts will contribute to making Bangladesh’s agriculture stronger and food-secure in the future,” he stated.
Chief Guest Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman praised BAU for its inclusivity, noting that one-third of the university’s faculty members are women. He stressed the importance of fostering a strong research culture in higher education institutions, stating, “A robust research culture in universities will enhance Bangladesh’s global recognition.”
The workshop features 23 technical sessions, where researchers will present their findings and propose future research directions. At the end of the event, the best 21 session presenters will receive crests and certificates, while six individuals will be honored as the best poster presenters in the poster session.
The three-day workshop aims to strengthen Bangladesh’s agricultural research and education system, ultimately ensuring a more sustainable and climate-resilient future for the country’s farming sector.
