BAU honours IRRI scientist

Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) has honored Dr Uma Sankar Shing, Senior Scientific Officer of International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), for his excellent performance in developing the life style of Bangladeshi farmers and ensuring food security.
BAU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Rafiqul Haque honored Dr Shing at the community center of BAU as chief guest while Director of BAU Research System (BAURES) and president of BAU Teachers’ Association (BAUTA) Prof Dr Lutful Hasan presided over the programme.
The progrmme was addressed, among others, by Director General (DG) of Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI) Dr Subash Chandra Chakraborty and Bangladesh representative of STRASA Dr MA Bari as special guests.
Dr Shing has been working for 4 years in Bangladesh to make 7 saline, drought, and flood tolerant rice variety available to approximately 10 lakhs farmers of 20 districts of the Southern part of the country.
