Bata Shoe Company (Bangladesh) Limited posted a loss of Tk9.64 crore in the April-June quarter of 2025.
The company’s financial statement, published on its website on Thursday shows its loss per share stood at Tk7.05 during the quarter, compared to a profit of Tk18.78 crore and earnings per share of Tk13.73 in the same period a year ago.
The company’s revenue in the second quarter declined by 40 per cent to Tk158 crore year-on-year.
During the first half of 2025, revenue fell 5 per cent to Tk514.66 crore, while net profit plunged 27 per cent to Tk27.18 crore. Its earnings per share at the end of June 2025 stood at Tk19.87.
Bata said its revenue and profitability were hit by exceptional events. Several retail stores suffered vandalism, disrupting operations and significantly affecting its financial results, according to the statement.
“These unprecedented incidents underscored the company’s resilience and the strong support from its stakeholders,” Bata noted.
In April, pro-Palestine demonstrators vandalised outlets of KFC, Domino’s Pizza, and multiple Bata stores across cities such as Sylhet, Chattogram, Khulna, Barishal, and Cumilla.
Following the attacks, Bata clarified in a statement: “We are aware of misinformation claiming Bata is an Israeli-owned company or politically involved in the Israel-Palestine conflict.
