NN Online:
Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed on Wednesday emphasized that the interim government, led by the Chief Adviser, is prioritizing basic reforms over long- or medium-term initiatives during its short tenure.

“We won’t be in office for long—perhaps seven to eight months,” said Dr Salehuddin. “Both the Chief Adviser and I are fully committed to implementing a few crucial, foundational reforms. We are not aiming for long-term or medium-term changes.”

He made the remarks while speaking at the Accounting and Auditing (A & A) Summit, held at a hotel in Dhaka, under the theme ‘FRC’s Role and Its Impact on Economic Governance of Bangladesh’.

The adviser acknowledged the many challenges facing reform efforts. “We are facing significant obstacles—many of which are not visible from the outside. But we are trying our best to push forward,” he said.

Dr Salehuddin also expressed gratitude to the business community and international lending agencies for their continued support. “Their cooperation has been truly commendable,” he added.

The event featured a keynote presentation by Financial Reporting Council (FRC) Chairman Dr Md Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan. Among the special guests were Anti-Corruption Commission Chairman Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen, Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur, and World Bank Country Director (interim) Souleymane Coulibaly.

The opening session was chaired by Finance Division Secretary Dr Md Khairuzzaman Mozumder, while World Bank Lead Governance Specialist Suraiya Zannath delivered the welcome speech.

ICAB President NKA Mobin and ICMAB President Mahtab Uddin Ahmed also addressed the gathering.
