Reigning champions Bashundhara Kings made a good start in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football defeating Uttar Baridhara Club by two goals to nil in the inaugural match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Wednesday.
Bashundhara led the first half 1-0. Earlier, Senior Vice-President of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) and Chairman of the Professional Football League Committee of BFF Abdus Salam Murshedy, MP, inaugurated the football competition by releasing the balloons as the chief guest.
Bishwanath Ghosh of Bashundhara Kings struck a right side lob and Baridhara’s Uzbek defender Fazilov tried to clear the ball by a header but Bashundhra’s Argentine striker Besera got the ball on his way and he put his team ahead by a header in the 35th minute of the play.
After the intermission, Bashundhara Kings doubled the margin. Mohammad Ibrahim of Bashundhara Kings advanced with the ball by a solo effort and entered the D-box of Uttar Baridhara then put the ball into the blank net by a placing shot deceiving the Baridhara goalie Mamun in the 55th minute of the match.
Today Dhaka Abahani Limited will face Bangladesh Police at the same venue. The match kicks-off at 4.00pm. Private satellite sports channel T Sports will telecast the match live from the big bowl.
