A fearless defender of democracy Barrister Mainul Hosein was remembered by the distinguished personalities in an event held on the occasion of his first death anniversary in the capital.
The event titled “Remembering the Indomitable Spirit: Barrister Mainul Hosein (1940-2023)” brought together family members, relatives, friends, colleagues, admirers, and prominent politicians who honored his legacy and reflected on his remarkable contributions to the people and the country.
The memorial meeting featured discussions on his life and works by Adviser to the Interim Government Sharmeen Murshid, Justice Md. Joynul Abedin, BNP senior leaders — Barrister Jamir Uddin Sircar, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, President of Nagorik Oikya Mahmudur Rahman Manna, former Secretary and Ambassador AH Mufazzal Karim, Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association President Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khakon, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, and former education minister Osman Faruk, former minister Anisul Islam Mahmud, Hafiz Ahmed Majumdar, ex-chairman Pubali Bank, Parveen Mahmud, ex-president ICAB, former Secretary Khaled Shams and Prominent Photojournalist Shahidul Alam spoke in the event.
Among others, former minister Anwar Hossain Manju, Barrister Raghib Rauf Chowdhury, ex-treasurer Supreme Court Bar Association, former IGP Ashraful Huda, former Vice Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, New Nation Editor Md Mokarram Hossain, Dhaka Union of Journalists President Shohidul Islam, Chairman of Bangladesh NAP Jebel Rahman Ghaani, freedom fighter Iqbal Hossain Forkan, and political leader ATM Golam Mawla Chowdhury were present on the occasion.
The event was moderated by Barrister Mainul’s granddaughter Nur Aleena Hosein.
The speakers recalled the far-reaching impact of Barrister Mainul Hosein’s influence on the state and the society and said his legacy remains that of a man who never wavered in his commitment to truth and democracy.
He worked hard with the dream of building a new discrimination-free Bangladesh.
He will always be remembered as a beacon of courage, a man who never stepped back when it came to standing up for what was right.
Barrister Mainul was a leading figure in law, politics, journalism and civil society. He was the eldest son of renowned journalist Tofazzal Hossain (Manik Mia).
Mainul Hosein was born in January 1940 in Pirojpur and graduated from Dhaka University in 1961, after which he pursued legal studies in London.
He passed away on 9th December 2023 while undergoing treatment in a city hospital.
