BARI’s internal research review, planning workshop begins

The Internal Research Review & Planning Workshop 2024 of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) began at the Kazi Badrudduza Auditorium of the institute on Saturday.
This workshop has been organized for the purpose of evaluating all the research programs undertaken in the last year 2023-2024 and formulating the research program for the next year 2024-2025 in the light of these experiences. Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) is currently conducting research activities on 212 crops. A total of 1,344 technologies including 673 high yielding, diseases resistant and various adverse environment resistant varieties and 671 other production technologies have been developed by BARI. As a result of these technological innovations, the production of oilseeds, pulses, potatoes, wheat, vegetables, spices and fruits has increased tremendously in the country. The main objective of this workshop is to verify the suitability of these technologies and to take up the program of technology innovation according to the current demand of the country. Honorable Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Dr. Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian was the chief guest while Director General of BARI Dr. Md. Abdullah Yousuf Akhond presided over the workshop. In the speech of the chief guest, the honorable secretary said, Scientists have to advance research activities due to the need of time. Special importance should also be given to developing varieties and technologies suitable for adverse weather conditions.
In the opening ceremony, the Director General Dr. Md. Abdullah Yousuf Akhond gave a keynote paper presentation on BARI’s research activities and achievement. At this time, Additional Secretary (Research Wing) Ministry of Agriculture Mr. Afsari Khanam; Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) Dr. Nazmun Nahar Karim and Director General of Department of Agricultural Extension Mr. Md. Tajul Islam Patwary discussed the keynote paper in this program.
BARI’s Director (Research) Dr. Munshi Rashid Ahmad; Director (Support & Services) Dr. Ashraf Uddin Ahmed; Director (Planning & Evaluation) Dr. Md. Abu Hena Sorwar Jahan; Director (Training and communication) Dr. Md. Ataur Rahman; Director (Oilseed Research) Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam; Director (Horticulture Research Centre) Dr. F.M. Abdur Rouf; Director (Tuber Crops Research Center) Dr. Md. Matiar Rahman; Director (Pulse Research Centre) Dr. Md. Saleh Uddin and Director (Director General’s Office) Dr. M M Kamrozzaman were also present on the occasion. Ministry of Agriculture, Department of Agricultural Extension, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation, Senior officer of various institutions, Agricultural experts, scientists, representatives from government, non-government and international organizations, BARI scientists and officers were, among others, participated in the inaugural session.
