Banned BCL, JCD clash leaves 15 hurt

At least 15 people, including three coordinators in Noakhali, were injured in two separate clashes between banned BCL and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) general students across the country on Sunday.

In Munshiganj, at least 12 people were injured in a clash broke out between Chhatra Dal and banned organization Chhatra League activists at Polytechnic Institute.

The incident took place on Sunday noon when Chhatra League activists were taking an exam at the college.

Among the injured, two, including a Chhatra Dal activist, were taken to Dhaka from Munshiganj General Hospital in critical condition. The rest received treatment locally.

After the incident, the police have taken 9 people into custody on suspicion of involvement in the chaos.

According to locals and college sources, Chhatra League activists Madmudul Hasan Tarif and Shahbaz Ashiq created panic on the campus during the Awami government.

On Sunday noon, viva of some departments of the college was going on. At that time, some Chhatra League activists who are known as supporters of Tarif and Ashiq arrived on the campus and general students and Chhatra Dal activists protested.

After a while, outsiders came and stood with the Chhatra League. Later, clashes broke out on both sides.

At the time, four Chhatra Dal activists and two general students including Chhatra League were injured. Later, the police and army rescued the injured from the scene and sent them to Munshiganj General Hospital.

The injured have made conflicting allegations in this incident. Injured Chhatra Dal activist Al Amin said that when banned Chhatra League activists entered the campus on Sunday, everyone opposed them.

At that time, Chhatra League activists called outsiders over the phone. Later, the outsiders came and beat them up.

In this regard, Sadar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Sajib Dey said that when some activists of the banned organization Chhatra League arrived at the educational institution in the afternoon, ordinary students and locals tried to stop them. The injured have been sent to the hospital. Legal action is being taken in this regard.

In Noakhali, three coordinators were injured in an attack by the banned Chhatra League in Sadar Upazila.

The injured coordinators have been identified as coordinator of Noakhali University of Science and Technology Mehedi Hasan Simanto (24), local student coordinator Mamunur Rashid Tushar (26) and Hasan Ahmed Ghalib (26).

The incident took place at around 1:45 am on Saturday (January 4) in the Madhusudanpur area of the district town of Maijdi.

Sudharam Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Saifur Rahman Khan said that there was a dispute between the two parties over a shop in the Hawkers Market of the district town of Maijdi.

On Saturday evening, the two parties had a dispute over the possession of the shop. At that time, the coordinator went there and talked for peaceful settlement.

Later, the matter was resolved by going to the nearby army camp. But when the coordinator went to the army camp, someone took their picture and posted a status on Facebook that the coordinator had been caught extorting money and they were arrested.

When the Facebook status went viral, the coordinators went there to talk those with whom they had a meeting over dispute to reveal the truth at around 1:30 am.

Then someone beat up the coordinators. Later, other students rescued them and admitted them to the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital. Two people named Bappi (28) and Fahad (30) have been arrested in this incident.

Al Zaki Hossain, coordinator of the Nobiprobi Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said that the leaders and activists of the banned organization Chhatra league were involved in this attack. He demanded that the attacker be brought to justice immediately.
