Despite being a weekly holiday, all banks and the stock market in Bangladesh will remain open today.
Bangladesh Bank and the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) confirmed the decision through separate announcements.
As a result, both public and private banks – including their head offices and branches – will operate as usual. Similarly, trading at the stock market will continue in line with regular working days.
According to DSE sources, trading will take place from 10am to 2:30pm. Bangladesh Bank has also directed that banks and the stock market will remain open on Saturday, May 24 as well.
The move comes in preparation for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha holidays, during which the government has declared a continuous 10-day break from June 5 to June 14.
To balance this extended holiday period, the Advisory Council of the interim government decided during a meeting on May 6 that government offices would remain open on two Saturdays – May 17 and May 24.
In accordance with this decision, Bangladesh Bank instructed financial institutions to remain open on those Saturdays, allowing customers to access full banking services and enabling uninterrupted trading in the capital market.
