The operating profit data for twelve banks has been obtained for the recently concluded year 2024. Despite a downturn in the stock market throughout the year, many banks recorded significant profit growth.A total of 36 banks are listed on the stock market; however, the operating
profit figures reported pertain to One Bank, BRAC Bank, City Bank, Dutch-Bangla Bank, Prime Bank, Bank Asia, Eastern Bank, Exim Bank, Mutual Trust Bank, Shahjalal Islami Bank, Mercantile Bank, and Premier Bank.
Among these banks, One Bank recorded the highest growth in operating profit, increasing by nearly 130 per cent. It was followed by BRAC Bank (72 per cent) and City Bank (69 per cent), while Premier Bank was the only one to experience a decline.
In terms of absolute operating profit, BRAC Bank, Pubali Bank, City Bank, and Dutch-Bangla Bank achieved the highest figures.
One Bank recorded an operating profit of Tk 830 crore in 2024, up from Tk 361 crore in 2023, reflecting a 129.91 per cent increase.
BRAC Bank achieved an operating profit of approximately Tk 2,400 crore in 2024, compared to Tk 1,393 crore in 2023, marking a 72.29 per cent growth.
City Bank witnessed a 69.53 per cent increase in operating profit, rising from Tk 1,349 crore in 2023 to Tk 2,287 crore in 2024-its highest-ever recorded profit.
Dutch-Bangla Bank reported a 61.71 per cent increase in operating profit, reaching Tk 2,285 crore in 2024 from Tk 1,413 crore in 2023.
The operating profits of other banks in 2024 included Bank Asia – Tk 1,700 crore, Eastern Bank – Tk 1,675 crore, Prime Bank – Tk 1,500 crore, Mutual Trust Bank (MTB) – Tk 1,110 crore, Shahjalal Islami Bank – Tk 1,500 crore, Exim Bank – Tk 975 crore, Premier Bank – Tk 850 crore, One Bank – Tk 830 crore, Mercantile Bank – Tk 644 crore.
Premier Bank was the only bank among the 12 to experience a decline in operating profit. In 2023, its profit was Tk 914 crore, which fell to Tk 850 crore in 2024, representing a 7 per cent decrease.
