Mashrur Arefin, Managing Director and CEO of City Bank PLC, has been unanimously elected as the new Chairman of the Association of Bankers Bangladesh (ABB), the premier platform representing the country’s top banking professionals. His appointment will continue until ABB’s next Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The leadership change follows the resignation of Selim R. F. Hussain, former MD & CEO of BRAC Bank PLC, who stepped down from his ABB role after leaving the bank.
At the same board meeting, Mohammad Ali, MD & CEO of Pubali Bank PLC, was appointed as ABB Vice Chairman. He will serve alongside Abul Kashem Mohammed Shirin, MD & CEO of Dutch-Bangla Bank PLC, who continues in the same capacity.

For the past six years, he has served as CEO of City Bank and was ABB Vice Chairman for nearly four years. Beyond banking, Arefin is also a noted writer and translator.
Mohammad Ali began his career at Pubali Bank in 2008 as Chief Technology Officer and steadily rose to the top, leading the bank to exceptional growth. He has held key roles such as COO, Chief Risk Officer, and Credit Committee Chairman.
