Police have recovered a Bangladeshi body from the Indian border in Cumilla’s Adarsh Sadar Upazila. The body was recovered from the banks of the Gomti River in the Cuttack Bazar area of Jagannathpur Union of the upazila around 11 am on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Kazi Chabir (42). He is the son of Kazi Najir of Gazipur Madhyapara area of the upazila.
According to police, the deceased’s body has several injury marks. It is initially believed that he was a victim of murder.
Local witness said that they saw a body lying in the border area on the morning. Later, the body was recovered with the help of the police and BGB.
The body was identified as that of a person named Kazi Chabir. The deceased had injury marks on his chest and hands. After recovering the body with the help of the BGB, the police sent it to the Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Comilla Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohinul Islam said, “The body was recovered in the presence of BGB members. There are many injury marks on the body. After talking to the family members, we initially learned that he was a drug addict. However, the reason behind the murder is not yet known. We are investigating the incident.”
