A five-wicket haul by Mehidy Hasan Miraz powered Bangladesh to all out Zimbabwe for 273 in the first innings on the second day (Monday) of the frist Test at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. Miraz finished his superb spell as 20.2-5-52-5.
Bangladesh trailed by 25 runs from Zimbabwe on the second day.
Electing to bat first, Bangladesh scored 191 in the first innings on the first day (Sunday). Bangladesh were at the stumps at 57/1. Opener Shadman Islam (4) was caught at the second slip by Sean Williams off Blessing Muzarabani when Bangladesh’s score was 13.
Opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Mominul Haque added together 44 runs before the bails were drawn for the second day. Joy was on 28, while Mominul Haque was on 15 before the two umpires pocketed the bails for the second day.
Zimbabwe resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 67 for the loss of none.
Brian Bennett and Ben Curran resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 40 and 17 runs respectively. Ben Curran could add one run on the second day as he was caught by Mominul Haque off Nahid Rana when Zimbabwe’s score was 69.
After Curran’s dismissal, Bennett could stay at the crease for a short period as he (57) was caught behind by Jaker Ali off Nahid Rana when Zimbabwe’s total was 88 for the loss of two wickets.
Nick Welch (2) was bowled out by Hasan Mahmud when Bangladesh’s score was 88 for the loss of three wickets.
Craig Ervine (8) was caught behind by Jaker Ali off Nahid Rana when the African side’s total was 129 for the loss of four wickets.
Wessly Madhevere (24) was bowled out by Khaled Ahmed when Zimbabwe’s score was 177 for the loss of five wickets.
Sean Williams fought back against Miraz’s bowling hitting a fine half-century. Williams notched up a fine 59 from 108 deliveries featuring six fours and two sixes before he was caught at the long-off by Mahmudul Hasan Joy off Miraz when Zimbabwe’s total was 193 for the loss of six wickets.
Miraz trapped leg before wicket Nyasha Mayavo (35) when Zimbabwe’s score was 218 for the loss of seven wickets. Miraz dismissed Wellington Masakadza (6) when Zimbabwe’s score was 233 for the loss of eight wickets.
Blessing Muzarabani (17) was stumped out by wicketkeeper Jaker Ali off Miraz when Zimbabwe’s total was 259 for the loss of nine wickets.
Victor Nyauchi ( 7) was caught at the extra cover by Taijul Islam off Miraz when Zimbabwe’s innings came to an end. Nahid Rana grabbed three wickets at the cost of 74 runs, while Khaled Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud took one wicket each for 30 and 55 runs respectively.
