Bangladesh stormed into the final of the OBHAI Tri-nation T20 series after defeating Zimbabwe by 39 runs in the fourth Twenty20 International match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Wednesday.
Sent into bat first, Bangladesh piled up a mammoth total of 175 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs and then bowled out Zimbabwe for 136 off 20 overs.
Bangladesh made a good start as openers Najmul Hossain Shanto and Liton Das put on together 49 runs in the opening stand before Shanto (11) was caught & bowled by Kyle Jarvis.
Liton Das caught at the fine leg by Madziva off Mpofu when Bangladesh’s score was 55 for the loss of two wickets. Liton Das made 38 from 22 balls featuring four fours and two sixes.
One-down Shakib Al Hasan (10) was caught at the long-off by Sean Williams off Ryan Burl when the hosts’ total was 65 for the loss of three wickets.
Then Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad contributed 78 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Mushfiqur Rahim was caught behind by wicketkeeper Brendan Taylor off Mutombodzi when the home side’s score was 143 for the loss of four wickets.
Mahmudullah Riyad top-scored with 62. His 41-ball innings was decorated with five fours and a sixer. He was caught at the deep mid-wicket Sean Williams off Jarvis when Bangladesh’s score was 169 for the loss of six wickets. It was Mahmudullah’s fourth T20I half-century. Mahmudullah was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Mushfiqur Rahim hit 32. His 26-ball innings was belted with three fours and a sixer. Jarvis grabbed three wickets at the cost of 32 runs, while Mpofu bagged two wickets instead of 42 runs.
Burl and Mutombodzi got one wicket each conceding 13 and 17 runs respectively. Most of the Zimbabwean batsmen failed to resist the controlled and tight bowling attack of Bangladesh bowlers. Mutumbami, Masakadza and Jarvis fought back against the superb bowling attack of Bangladesh.
Mutumbami hit a marvelous 54, while Jarvis made 27 and Masakadza scored a run-a-ball 25.
Shafiul Islam claimed three wickets instead of 36 runs, while Aminul Islam and Mustafizur Rahman bagged a couple of wickets each for 18 and 38 runs respectively.
Mohammad Saifuddin and Shakib Al Hasan took one wicket apiece.
