The first Test match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will begin today at Galle in Sri Lanka. The game will start at 10:30am (Bangladesh Standard Time). Captain of Bangladesh Test team Najmul Hossain Shanto will lead his team, while Captain of Bangladesh Test team Dhananjaya de Silva will lead his team.

Private satellite sports channel T Sports will telecast the match live. This Test match is part of International Cricket Council (ICC) World Test Championship (WTC). Bangladesh achieved seventh position in the points table of the last World Test Championship.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka took sixth spot in the points table of the last World Test Championship. South Africa became champions in the ICC World Test Championship 2025 after defeating Australia by five wickets at Lord’s in England recently.

Bangladesh played 12 Test matches in the last ICC World Test Championship. They won four Test matches and tasted eight defeats. On the other hand, Sri Lanka played 13 Test matches in the last ICC World Test Championship. They won five Test matches and suffered eight defeats.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz is uncertain in the first Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka as the prolific all-rounder has been suffering from fever for some days.

Angelo Mathews of Sri Lanka confirmed on Monday that the upcoming match would mark the end of his 15-year-long career in Test cricket.

“This is a special moment. I’ve had a long and fulfilling Test career and I think it’s the right time to move on,” said Mathews, who has played 107 Tests since his debut in 2009.

“It was unfortunate and frustrating, but I have moved on. I don’t hold any grudges. The Bangladesh players are my friends. They’ve always treated me well,” he said. Mathews revealed that match officials had later reviewed the footage and expressed regret over the decision.

Despite those past tensions, Mathews has fond memories of Bangladesh. He lifted the 2014 T20 World Cup trophy in Dhaka and has played frequently in Bangladesh’s domestic cricket, including the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Cricket and Dhaka Premier League (DPL) Cricket.

Captain of Bangladesh Test Cricket team Najmul Hossain Shanto wants his team to focus on the positives. Shanto said, “We made a strong comeback in the last match, and that’s the memory I want to carry into this series.”

Shanto remained tight-lipped about his batting position and the final playing XI. Bangladesh have only two specialist openers in the squad, and Shanto has opened in Tests before.
