Bangladesh seeks stronger energy ties with Oman

Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Interim Government, Md Touhid Hossain, has urged the Omani government to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector.

On the sidelines of the 8th Indian Ocean Conference (IOC) on Monday, the Adviser met with Oman’s Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, in Muscat to discuss various issues of mutual interest. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries.

The Adviser requested the Omani government to consider recruiting Bangladeshi professionals, including doctors, engineers, IT specialists, and nurses. He also proposed the recruitment of shipbuilding technicians from Bangladesh.

Emphasising the importance of energy security, the Adviser sought deeper cooperation in the sector and requested a guaranteed energy supply from Oman.

Both parties noted that Bangladesh and Oman will soon celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations and agreed to mark the occasion appropriately. In this regard, the Adviser invited his Omani counterpart to visit Bangladesh for the celebrations.

The Adviser also expressed gratitude to the Omani government for hosting a large number of Bangladeshi expatriates who are contributing to both economies.

Additionally, the Foreign Affairs Adviser met with Qatar’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Soltan Al Muraikhi. He thanked the Qatari government for hosting Bangladeshi expatriates and requested the recruitment of more professionals, including doctors, engineers, IT specialists, and nurses.

To facilitate recruitment, he invited representatives from Qatar’s relevant authorities to visit Bangladesh to meet potential candidates. The Adviser also welcomed Qatari investments in Bangladesh, highlighting the importance of private sector visits to explore investment opportunities.
