Bangladesh seal first ODI series over India

Sport Desk: Bangladesh registered their first One Day International series win over India beating the visitors by 6 wickets in the second ODI of the three-match series in Dhaka on Sunday. Bangladesh young pacer Mustafizur Rahman’s six-wicket haul restricted India to 200 in 45 overs in a rain hit-47 over match, after the visitors’ captain MS Dhoni had won the toss and decided to bat first at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. Chasing a revised target of 200 runs in 47 overs (according to Duckworth–Lewis method), Bangladesh scored for wickets in overs to seal the first ODI series win over their mighty opponents. The hosts also defeated the visitors by 79 runs in the first ODI and secured the series 2-0. However, the Tigers lost opener Tamim Iqbal (13) early who was caught by Shikhar Dhawan at slip off Dhawal Kulkarni in the second delivery of 7th over. Bangladesh lost first wicket for 34. Soumya Sarkar and Litton Das then made a 52-run partnership in the second wicket. Soumya was LBW by Ravichandran Ashwin in the 17th over. He scored 34 runs off 47 balls with 2 fours and 1 six. Two over later, Litton Das also departed scoring 36 runs off 41 balls with 5 fours. However, right-arm offbreak bowler Nasir Hossain got Kohli LBW in the third delivery of the 13th over. Kohli scored 23 off 27 balls. In the next over, Nasir grabbed the catch of Ambati Rayudu bowled by Rubel Hossain. Rayudu, who made his entry to the playing XI in place of Ajinkya Rahane, went for a duck. MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina then made a slow 53-run partnership in the 5th wicket to rebuild the loss. After his first spell of 5-32-1, Mustafizur came back to action in the 36th over and made Suresh Raina caught by Liton Das behind the stumps. Raina scored 34 off 55 balls with only 3 boundaries. In his eighth over, Mustafizur got Indian captain MS Dhoni (47) and Axar Patel (0) in consecutive deliveries. In his next over, the 19-year left-hand pacer dismissed Ravichandran Ashwin (4) to claim his fifth wicket. Mustafizur became the second bowler after Brian Vittori to take five-for in his first two ODIs. India were 196/8 in 43.5 overs when rain stopped the play at 6:19pm. Ravindra Jadeja was batting on 19 while Bhuvneshwar Kumar on 2. Play then resumed at 8:15pm with 3 overs cut from each team. Mustafizur bowled Jadeja (19) in the only delivery he had left. The visitors then added only 4 runs before getting all out in 7 balls after the rain. Mustafizur finished his 10 overs with 6 wickets for 43 runs. Nasir Hossain and Rubel Hossain took 2 wickets each for 33 and 26 runs respectively. The third and last ODI of the series will be held on Wednesday (June 24) at the same venue.
