Bangladesh Post has climbed 51 positions to secure the 68th spot out of 174 countries in the Integrated Postal Development Index 2024 (2IPD), published by the Universal Postal Union (UPU). Bangladesh’s 2IPD score reached 54, a sharp rise from 18.30 in 2023, when the country ranked 119th. In previous years, Bangladesh Post ranked 133rd (2022), 143rd (2021), and 128th (2020). The 2024 report marks Bangladesh’s advancement to Development Level 6, up from Level 3 in 2023 and Level 2 in 2022, signaling significant growth in postal service development.

The UPU report evaluates countries based on four key indicators: reliability, reach, relevance, and resilience. Bangladesh scored 72 in reliability, 54.8 in reach, 4.8 in relevance, and an impressive 91.8 in resilience, earning an additional 3 bonus points.

Among South Asian countries, India ranks 42nd with a score of 73, Sri Lanka 67th (54.3), Pakistan 80th (46.4), the Maldives 103rd (32.3), Nepal 114th (27.3), and Bhutan 126th (22.2). Globally, Germany (score 108.6) and Switzerland (score 108.6)share the top position with a score of 108.6, followed by Japan at 105.9.

The report highlights Bangladesh’s exceptional performance in resilience, noting that its score of 91.8 is unusually high among Least Developed Countries (LDCs). This indicates Bangladesh’s strong progress in adapting postal services to economic and technological challenges. In terms of reach, Bangladesh stands out alongside Ethiopia, with scores of 54.8 and 52, respectively, reflecting robust geographical coverage and international connectivity. This is notable as most LDCs score lower in this category.

The UPU attributes Bangladesh’s significant improvement to consistent performance in monthly data compliance reports, where the country frequently ranks between 1st and 20th.

Additional factors include increased mail volume, customer service awards, UPU-validated exports, advancements in transport and delivery standards, expanded tracking data capture at various stages, nearly 100% online customs declarations (ITMATT), timely ITMATT responses, and enhanced domestic mail tracking systems.

Bangladesh Post, the nation’s sole postal service provider, continues to extend its services from urban centers to remote areas. As a long-standing government institution, it remains committed to delivering affordable and reliable postal services across the country.
