Bangladesh saw a significant inflow of remittances in last February, with expatriates sending home $2.5 billion.
The Bangladesh Bank (BB) released the latest remittance data on Sunday.
According to central bank data, Bangladesh recorded its highest-ever monthly remittance inflow of $2.64 billion in December last year.
February’s remittance figures marked a historic high as the amount is highest for any February in the country’s history.
This represents a 25 per cent increase over last year’s February remittance.
Bangladesh Bank Spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan said, “Expatriates sent an average of $9 million daily during the month. The total remittance from July to February of the 2024-25 fiscal year reached $18.49 billion, reflecting a significant growth of nearly 24 per cent compared to the same period last year.”
The consistent rise in remittance over the last seven months showcases a strong financial support system from Bangladesh’s expatriate community, continuing to surpass $2 billion each month since the current interim government’s tenure began.
